About Viktoriia BakshinskaiteLinkedin-in

I am Viktoriia Bakshinskaite, a Lithuanian Bachelor student at Hotelschool The Hague in my last year. My professional experience spans 6 years and involves a range of backgrounds, from esteemed brands such as Conrad (Hilton Worldwide), to multinational OTAs such as Booking.com.

My passion for hospitality and creating personalised connections is what brought me to Hotelschool The Hague and fuelled my interest in Sustainability. Through my education and the former role of the Chair of the Sustainability Committee at my university, I have discovered the importance of innovating business models to cater to the planet and people.

The projects pursued under my leadership involved fundraising, raising awareness in the student and local communities, promoting recycling and optimising use of resources within the university. However, I wish to make a greater impact in transitioning towards net-zero outside of my community which is why I plan on pursuing further education in Sustainability and Green Energy.

The Sustainable Hospitality Challenge is a great opportunity to bring young creative minds together to find new ways to build a better, greener future for resource-intensive industries such as Hospitality. I am proud to be part of the joined team from Hotelschool The Hague and Nanyang Technological University of Singapore with the concept Nexus. Our concept deploys latest technology to create unique, gamified guest experiences, while regenerating the desert terrain of Saudi Arabia.

About Daryl ChionhLinkedin-in

I’ve always had a strong sense of curiosity about the world, which eventually ignited a passion for the sciences. This fervour led me to pursue a path in engineering at NTU, Singapore, where I delved deeper into the realms of engineering, design, and people. It was during this time that I stumbled upon a seemingly straightforward yet remarkably complex concept: designing for people.

This concept deeply resonates with me, as it encapsulates the essence of our endeavours—to propel society forward with thoughtful innovation. In this pursuit, it remains paramount to keep in mind the individuals for whom we innovate and the underlying purpose of our designs.

Guided by these foundational principles, I aspire to drive lasting and meaningful change. Whether in my current capacity as a student or a seasoned professional, I strive to contribute to the betterment of those around me and society as a whole.

About Silvia GradognaLinkedin-in

I was born and raised in Naples, a beautiful and vibrant city in southern Italy. Despite the love for my city I always felt the need to explore the world and live in an international environment. Thanks to my parents, I had the chance to have many experiences abroad since a very young age. From the age of 13 I spent summers in the UK and Australia to improve my English. I also got the opportunity to move to the US at the age of 16 for an exchange year, where I spent my senior year of high school and I experienced the American culture. Here I started working in the hospitality industry for the first time in my host-mother’s catering company. That year was life-changing, because I discovered so much about myself and about my passion for hospitality.

Hospitality and tourism has always been in my family, as my mother is an art historian and tour guide and my father owned a magazine about tourism in Campania. Following my mother’s footsteps I also became passionate about learning languages. I attended a language high school in Italy with a focus on English, French and German.

After high school I moved to Amsterdam for my Bachelor’s in Hospitality Management at Hotelschool The Hague, where I learned about the vast opportunities that the hospitality industry has to offer. My curiosity and desire to learn and grow led me to engage in many extra curricular activities such as the Student Council, the Debating Society, the TED Talk team, and the Sustainable Hospitality Challenge. These experiences allowed me to expand my soft and hard skills covering different roles ranging from events and marketing manager and recruiter.

As work experience, before starting my Bachelor’s I did an internship at MarePineta Resort, a five-star hotel in Milano Marittima. After my first year of Bachelor I also did an internship as Assistant Operations intern at The Social Hub in Paris. Next to my studies, I have worked part-time in a boutique hotel, Hotel The Craftsmen, as well as the W Amsterdam, a five-star luxury hotel from Marriott International. Simultaneously, I worked as Student Ambassador for the Recruiment Department of Hotelschool The Hague, where I organized open days and presented HTH to interested candidates, as well as participated during selection days as co-selector.

Currently, I am in my last phase of my studies and I have successfully completed my pre-master program at Hotelschool The Hague. I am about to start my final internship before graduating in February 2024. I am highly interested in exploring different industries such as Strategy Consulting, Sustainability, Real Estate, and Hospitality Consulting.
