The whole team of SHC wishes everyone healthy and sustainable new year! Now it’s the time to incorporate some sustainable goals into your new year’s resolutions towards more conscious 2021. Accordingly, we would like to start the year with sharing a glance to our creative students’ innovative ideas in creating more sustainable hospitality industry.

Starting with NHL Stenden, and their invention for Dimension 1, Future Brand: Proteus – Circular water system.

Historically speaking, the water has been an element highly appreciated and looked up on by all the civilizations in the past, as it helped them thrive, build, feed themselves, survive in one word. Likewise, the current situation, back then, there was no substitute for water and the ability of harnessing it became a matter of life and death. For example, looking back on Maya civilization, due to their neglection towards the usage of water, it had a short lifetime and many Maya cities have faces draughts that lasted 100 years. As opposed to that, the Roman Empire managed to tame this element and as a result of this, it survived and thrived across its long existence. Today, with a terrifying threat of water scarcity ahead of humanity, the question is: Will we, as human beings, be able to face the 2050 city if we do not take historical aspects into accounts?

It is true that the world population is growing and the demand for water is subsequently higher. However, this fact should not be accountable for the main reason of this water scarcity, and the issue behind it, is rather the unsustainable usage of this precious resource across the globe. In order to survive, Proteus aims to change this and create opportunities for the future city of 2050 with the view of preventing the occurrence of a catastrophic disappearance of clean water. Eventually, Proteus’ goal is to avoid the end of humanity due to the absence of clean water, put an end to the world water crisis and create a circular water usage system.

With this in mind, Proteus will act as a service provider specialized on the sustainable usage of water. Additionally, it will fight against the water crisis of 2050 by placing the water at the core of the city and society by distributing different innovative, sustainable technologies provided by various partner companies to the buildings of the cities. Thereby, it will be made possible to make full usage of water running through the building continuously, without going to waste. The by-products of the different processes will be implemented in the society as well, as the generated energy can be used for the building, and the sludge will be picked up by Proteus’ service staff to act as fertilizer for local farmers. The customers of Proteus will lease the different technologies owned by the different partners, and the Proteus service staff will provide maintenance to facilitate high quality products. That way, Proteus and its partners’ can offer a qualitative lifespan of their range of products. Moreover, it will also address the hospitality industry where the waste is an impactful topic. By implementing the Proteus’ products, not only hotels, but the whole city of 2050 could create an enjoyable environment with water and sustainable practices at heart.

In order to solve the world’s water crisis, Proteus’ products must be implemented within the whole city, facilitating the society. By implementing Proteus’ partners’ products, all the people around the world will benefit of clean water and sustainable energy. What is more, it will bring benefits to the society by reducing not only the water waste, but also the general dependency on the natural water resources, the water stress level and scarcity around the globe.

Ultimately, Proteus’ impact on the environment and city of 2050 is clearly visible; it is designed to last and address current and future issues with destructive outcomes. The company named after the Greek god of water and shape shifting, is going to shape the body of a sustainable society able to host future generations.
