The journey towards the FHS World kicked off in Europe, where the semi-finals were hosted by the prestigious Swiss Hotel Management School at their breathtaking Caux Campus in Montreux, Switzerland. From April 30th to May 2nd, the serene Swiss landscape provided the perfect backdrop for a whirlwind of creativity and innovation.
The event opened with an inspiring speech by Paul Griep and last year’s runner up, Viktoriia Bakshinskaite. Followed by pitching, executive Q&A, Flash Mob organised by SHMS, networking drinks and many more. Seventeen talented teams from across Europe and UAE presented their groundbreaking concepts to a distinguished panel.
Lukas Lauber, a member of the 2021 winning team, delivered an emotional keynote address. He spoke about their project on communal living and cooperative housing, emphasizing the importance of fighting loneliness in today’s society. Lukas also paid tribute to their late teammate Eve Mignot, remembering her positive energy that spread into every room she entered and her extensive contributions to sustainability.
The competition was so fierce that the jury decided to advance three teams to the finals, instead of the initially planned two. The European semi-finals not only highlighted the extraordinary talent of the participating teams, but also underscored the importance of sustainable innovation in the hospitality industry.
