Edition of the Sustainable Hospitality Challenge was “REMOTE“. As travelers seek to disconnect from their familiar surroundings and immerse themselves fully in nature, the concept of “remote” takes on new significance. This trend is not just about physical distance, but also about embracing a lifestyle that includes remote work capabilities and a deep connection to unspoiled environments. These challenges aimed not only to meet the evolving needs of travelers for immersive and sustainable remote experiences but also to pave the way for future hospitality concepts that respect and preserve our planet’s resources for generations to come.
Participants were invited to unleash their creativity and ingenuity over the following weeks and months, tasked with developing concepts that embodied sustainability while offering innovative and practical solutions. +35 top universities from around the world enthusiastically competed in the challenge, with teams comprised of solely hospitality students.
The semi-finals were hosted in June 2022 in Amsterdam at Sofitel Legend The Grand Amsterdam, providing a prestigious venue for participants to showcase their groundbreaking ideas. The finals took place during the FHS summit in Dubai in September 2022, where industry leaders gathered to witness the culmination of the participants’ hard work.
Notably, the winning team featured a hospitality student with a design background, whose unique perspective contributed to a thoughtfully developed solution. This interdisciplinary collaboration highlighted the potential of integrating diverse fields of study, inspiring future challenges to embrace a multidisciplinary approach towards sustainable hospitality solutions.
